Pullium (ASN: 6852878), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy, while serving with Company D, 11th Engineers, in rescuing a comrade from drowning in the Pacific Ocean at the Department Training Center, Rio Bato, Republic of Panama, 3 February 1941. Hearing cries for help, Sergeant Pullium, with utter disregard of his own safety swam to his comrade, and in spite of the fact that he was pulled under the water twice, preserved until he managed to swim with him to shallow water, thereby saving him from drowning.
