The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Lieutenant Alvin C. Wilson, Jr., United States Navy, for heroic conduct during World War II. When a pilot crashed in the sea in the vicinity of Florida Island, Lieutenant Wilson dived overboard without a life jacket and swam to the wrecked plane, knowing that his ship might not be able to stop and pick him up. He brought the pilot’s head above water and held him up until a rescue boat arrived.
