Edwin Hausman was a member of the crew of the U.S.S. Genesee (AT-5), serving in the Philippine Islands. His ship was scuttled on May 5, 1942, to prevent the vessel from falling into enemy hands, and he and was subsequently captured and interned as a Prisoner of War.

Genessee (AT-55), was captured by the Japanese after the fall of Corregidor, Philippine Islands, on 6 May 1942, and was held as a Prisoner of War until his recovery by U.S. Forces which liberated the Bilibid Prison Camp on 5 February 1945.
