The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Clarence Leroy Mohler (ASN: 39678307), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. Private First Class Mohler distinguished himself on 8 November 1942, by outstanding heroism in climbing the walls of the fortification at Kasba-Mehdia, French Morocco, and from this exceptionally hazardous position firing his automatic rifle at the enemy, diverting their attention and enabling our other troops to close in and make entry through the main gates of the Fort. This act aided in the fall of the Kasba and the surrender of many prisoners from inside the walls. Private First Class Mohler’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 9th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
