    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private Wiley M. McDuffie (ASN: 6379271), United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with Company A, 4th Engineers, displayed in rescuing a soldier from drowning in the Chattahoochee River, near Fort Benning, Georgia, on the night of 20 January 1935. Private McDuffie and another soldier voluntarily plunged into the Chattahoochee River in the darkness and rescued a soldier of his company who had been thrown into the river from a raft and hit when a floating timber, and who was in grave danger of drowning.
