The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class George B. McDonald (ASN: 6651474), United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with Company G, 19th Infantry Regiment, displayed while assisting in rescuing a woman from drowning at Waimanalo Beach, Oahu, Territory of Hawaii on 2 July 1933. Private McDonald with three other soldiers, learning that a woman was being carried out to sea by the undertow and in danger of drowning, at the risk of his life swam out in an extremely high sea through the strong undertow and brought the woman, who had become unconscious, safely to shore where she was resuscitated by means of artificial respiration.
