The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Pablo Marquez (ASN: R-325617), United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with Battery C, 92d Coast Artillery, Philippine Scouts, in rescuing Sergeant Angel Dingal, Battery C. 92d Coast Artillery (Philippine Scouts), from drowning near Fort Mills, Corregidor, Philippine Islands on 8 February 1932. While under the water engaged in emptying battery fish traps located about 150 yards offshore, Sergeant Dingal was assailed and mortally wounded by sharks. Private Marquez, observing the attack from a nearby banca, with complete disregard of his own safety, dived from the banca into the water and with the assistance of another private of his battery, rescued Sergeant Dingal from the attacking sharks and brought him to shore.
