The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private John A. Lovold (ASN: 6861608), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy displayed at Omaha, Nebraska, on 11 November 1937. While on duty directing traffic and conducting school children across the street at the junction of 30th Street and Ellison Avenue, two little children, in spite of Private Lovold’s effort to stop them, dashed out into the street behind a street car, one child, being pursued by the other, stumbled and fell in front of an approaching automobile. Private Lovold, with great presence of mind and utter disregard of his own safety, quickly rushed into the path of the rapidly approaching automobile and dragged the children to safety.
