The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Electrician Andrew L. Burglund (NSN: 105590), United States Navy, for gallant and intrepid devotion to duty as Officer-in-Charge of electrical and communication equipment during enemy Japanese bombardment of the Mariveles Area, Bataan, Philippine Islands on 5 and 6 April 1942. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, Electrician Burglund directed the work of restoring broken power and communication lines resulting from the first attack while bombs from the second attack were dropping in the immediate vicinity. By his courage in the face of danger, Electrician Burglund upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
