The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Corporal Albert J. Krampitz (ASN: 6114865), United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with 1st Motor Transport company, Quartermaster Corps, 1st Division, during a fire in the Post Garage, Fort Jay, New York on 16 February 1932. After several unsuccessful attempts had been made to rescue a prisoner who was trapped in the blazing building, Corporal Krampitz disregarded his own personal safety, entered the building, crawled on his hands and knees through dense smoke, located the prisoner who was lying on the floor in an unconscious condition and brought him to a place of safety.
