(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Air Corps) Michael Joseph Ingelido (ASN: 0-426393), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Pilot of a P-39 Airacobra Fighter Airplane of the 33d Fighter Squadron, Iceland Base Command, in aerial operations near Faxabay, Iceland, on 24 October 1942. On this date Second Lieutenant Michael Ingelido and Second Lieutenant Thurman Morrison shared in the destruction of a German FW-200 that was on a reconnaissance flight over the western area of Iceland. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant Ingelido, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.

Ingelido (ASN: 0-426393), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Pilot of a P-47 Fighter Airplane in the 412th Fighter Squadron, 373d Fighter Group, NINTH Air Force, in action against the enemy over the Brest Peninsula, 31 August 1944. On this date, having led his squadron through extremely severe weather and terrific hostile ground fire on three separate bomb runs in an attempt to destroy his target, Lieutenant Colonel Ingelido, after having had his airplane hit by enemy fire numerous times on each of the three previous runs, returned a fourth time over this heavily defended area to mark it so that another squadron might be able to deliver its attack with telling accuracy. The determination, coolness, and courage displayed by Lieutenant Colonel Ingelido on this occasion reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
