The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain George K. Hynes (AFSN: FV-3147440), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-123K Navigator, 19th Special Operations Squadron, at Kien Hung, Republic of Vietnam, on 16 April 1968. On that date, Captain Hynes was a member of a combat crew tasked to airdrop vitally needed ammunition to the outpost of Kien Hung. Approaching the drop zone, the aircraft was attacked by concealed hostile gun positions which damaged their aircraft. Although the aircraft did receive moderate battle damage, Captain Hynes remained undaunted as he directed the aircraft to a successful airdrop which placed the ammunition in the hands of friendly forces. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Hynes reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
