(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Colonel Sargent Prentiss Huff, United States Army, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from 1941 to 1945.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Captain (Ordnance Department) Sargent Prentiss Huff, United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed in rescuing a boy from drowning at a beach adjacent to Rockwell Field, California on 28 August 1934. Observing that and 11-year-old boy who was caught in a rip tide and being rapidly carried out to sea was in grave danger of drowning, Captain Huff, with utter disregard of his own safety, swam through the surf into the rip tide and with great difficulty succeeded in brining the boy safely to shore, thereby saving his life.
