The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Corporal Peter Hardley, Jr. (ASN: R-2562852), United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with Company L, 25th Infantry Regiment, on 20 December 1932, at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Corporal Hardley, with utter disregard of personal danger, intercepted and shot to death an insane soldier who had just killed two officers and their wives and who was then in the act of shooting another officer.
