The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Harry F. Hadley (ASN: 6554375), United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with Company B, 19th Infantry Regiment, near Waianse, Oahu, Territory of Hawaii, October 10, 1936. While crossing a railroad trestle a little girl became frightened and stopped directly in the path of an approaching railroad car. Private Hadley seeing her predicament, with utter disregard of his own safety, ran out on the trestle but was unable to reach her before she was struck by the car and knocked off the bridge into the water. Private Hadley immediately dived off the bridge and succeeded in bringing her to a place of safety.
