The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Corporal Clyde E. Gilmore (ASN: 6245624), United States Army Air Corps, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with the 44th Observation Squadron, at Albrook Field, Canal Zone, September 30, 1935. Observing a soldier, whose clothing was completely enveloped in flames caused by a sudden gasoline blaze in the hangar of the 44th Observation Squadron, running from the scene of the fire, Corporal Gilmore rushed after him, succeeded in throwing him to the ground and removing his clothing. By his courage and coolness, Corporal Gilmore undoubtedly saved the life of this soldier.
