The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Third Class Oscar Coleman Adams (NSN: 5732408), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against a major enemy task force in the Sibuyan Sea, Philippine Islands, on 24 October 1944. Aviation Radioman Third Class Adams was combat aircrewman of a carrier-based dive bomber when his pilot obtained a direct hit on an enemy battleship of the YAMATO Class. In the face of intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire his cool performance of duty contributed much to the success of this mission. His skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
