The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Milton Lee Adams (NSN: 0-156983), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Bombing-Fighting Squadron NINETY-FOUR (VBF-94), on 14 July 1945. As a Division Leader, Lieutenant, Junior Grade Adams led his flight in a rocket and strafing attack against an enemy armed trawler off the southeastern coast of Hokkaido. During the ensuing action he pressed home his attack at extremely low level and in the face of accurate, medium anti-aircraft fire, scoring four direct rocket hits on the ship, setting it afire and causing it to be beached, half-submerged. His leadership and skillful airmanship on this occasion were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
