The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Arthur Abramson (NSN: 0-240371), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Air Group ONE, embarked in U.S.S. YORKTOWN (CV-10), in action against enemy forces on 24 June 1944. While in the vicinity of the Bonin Islands, his division encountered and attacked superior enemy forces. He demonstrated great skill in destroying two of the enemy although outnumbered and under heavy attack during the engagement. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
