The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant Warren Hartshorne Abercrombie (NSN: 0-115033), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against enemy aircraft on the night of 2 July 1944. Lieutenant Abercrombie successfully intercepted one enemy plane of a formation of planes threatening this task force, diverted it from its mission, and with only three of his guns operating, shot it down in flames. The courage and skill displayed by him in making a night interception and preventing possible damage to this Task Force were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
