The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class Herman Riley Abbott (NSN: 4097368), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight for numerous combat flights during the periods 1 to 9 June 1943 and 27 January 1943 to 14 February 1943; and for the daylight bombardment of Bougainville on 14 February 1943.
