    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class George R. Elliott, Jr. (ASN: 6356260), United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with Company A, 4th Engineers, in rescuing a soldier from drowning in the Chattahoochee River near Fort Benning, Georgia, on the night of 20, January 1935. Private Elliott and another soldier voluntarily plunged into the Chattahoochee River in the darkness and rescued a soldier of his company who had been thrown into the river from a raft and hit with a floating timber, and who was in grave danger of drowning.
