Jacob Eierman was one of the 80 airmen who, under the leadership of Jimmy Doolittle, disembarked from the U.S.S. Hornet in the first bombing raid over Tokyo in World War II. Following the raid he returned to duty in the United States, flying anti-submarine patrols off the Eastern coast until February 1945. At that time he entered Officer’s Candidate School, receiving his commission in June 1945 and eventually achieving the rank of Major.
