The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant General Albert J. Edmonds, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Edmonds distinguished himself as Director, Defense Information Systems Agency and Manager, National Communications System, Arlington, Virginia, from 29 July 1994 to 31 July 1997. During this period, General Edmonds made evolutionary and long lasting contributions to the security, interoperability, and survivability of the Nation’s Information Infrastructure. He developed and took Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence for the Warrior Initiative from a vision to an operational reality. As Director, Defense Information Systems Agency, and Global Command and Control System, he was the catalyst behind the successful implementation of the Department’s Global Command and Control System and the Defense Information System Network. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Edmonds culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
