The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Robert H. Brown, Jr. (NSN: 0-471330), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of a jet fighter plane attached to Fighter Squadron ONE HUNDRED FIFTY-ONE (VF-151), on board the U.S.S. BOXER (CV-21), on 22 July 1953. Lieutenant Brown, while flying on an armed reconnaissance flight against a heavily defended enemy truck convoy displayed exceptional skill and daring in the performance of his duties. He destroyed eleven trucks and a vast quantity of vital supplies being transported in support of the Communist ‘d Kumsong offensive. Despite intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire his flight delivered a severe blow to vital enemy transportation facilities and destroyed numerous trucks and supplies at a critical phase of the Communist offensive. His courageous conduct and superior aerial skill contributed immeasurably to the success of the BOXER in its assigned missions and to the termination of the conflict with the Communist Forces in North Korea. His inspiring leadership and steadfast devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
