The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Captain Harry A. Adams, Jr. (NSN: 0-81554), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commander Escort Group and Commander Escort Squadron SEVEN, during combat operations against enemy North Korean and Chinese Communist Forces in the Korean Theater from 19 January 1952 to 15 December 1952. During this period Captain Adams demonstrated exceptionally efficient planning and leadership in maintaining his squadron in a high state of operational readiness. As Commander Escort Squadron SEVEN and Commander Escort Group, his intelligent and imaginative use of the limited forces at his disposal greatly furthered the assigned tasks of United Nations Blockading and Escort Force in conducting a highly effective escort service for the combatant and replenishment vessels of the friendly forces. His keen foresight and sound judgment was responsible for the safe escort of United Nations combat ships and vessels transporting troops and supplies to the friendly forces in Korea. Throughout his entire service in the Korean area, Captain Adams’ understanding of naval responsibility rendered invaluable service to his Task Force Commander. His conduct in the performance of these outstanding services reflected great credit upon himself and the ships under his command and contributed directly to the success of the friendly forces against the Communist enemy in Korea. His actions and steadfast devotion to duty were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. (Captain Adams is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.)
