Schmidt, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving with Patrol Squadron FORTY-TWO (VP-42), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea from 22 August 1950 to 27 February 1951.
