The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Doy D. Dodd (ASN: 6630814), United States Army Air Corps, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with the 60th Service Squadron, at Fort Clark, TX, 4 May 1933. While making a cross-country flight an airplane carrying five military passengers and piloted by Lieutenant Bogen, landing for the purpose of refueling, crashed and burst into flames. Sergeant Dodd and two companions, with utter disregard of personal danger, entered the burning airplane, rescued the three remaining passengers who were caught in the wreckage, and extinguished the flames from the clothing of one of the passengers.
