The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Ensign Edgar John Boudinot, Jr. (NSN: 0-326176), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of a carrier-based fighter airplane during an enemy aerial torpedo attack upon his task force on 13 October 1944. In spite of intense anti-aircraft fire from the task force, he pressed home his attack on an enemy torpedo airplane with complete disregard for his own personal safety and shot it down in flames. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
