The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Edgar John Boudinot, Jr. (NSN: 0-326176), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving with Fighter Squadron FIVTY-TWO (VF-52) as a leader of a division of jet fighters in a strike against vital enemy rail bridges west of Yangdok on 16 January 1952. After braving severe flak to attack a bridge, Lieutenant Boudinot made an individual high speed pass into the same target area to assess the damage inflicted by his strike. A short time later he volunteered for and repeated this heroic act for another strike against two heavily defended bridges in the same vicinity. In this assessment run, which was carried down to the level of the bridges, Lieutenant Boudinot’s aircraft was hit four times. By this daring and courageous maneuver Lieutenant Boudinot was able to report to the attack group that one of the target bridges was still intact, whereupon it was subsequently destroyed. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
