The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Corporal Loren Ray Clevenger, United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with Company A, 162d Infantry Regiment, displayed in rescuing a comrade from drowning in the surf at Sepside, Oregon on 21 June 1936. Upon learning that a man was caught in the rip tide and was in grave danger of drowning, Corporal Clevenger with utter disregard of his own safety, swam through the surf into the rip tide and with great difficulty, succeeded in keeping the drowning man afloat until sufficient help arrived to bring him safely to shore.
