(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant, Junior Grade William Henry Mero (NSN: 0-506072), United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving with Fighter Squadron EIGHT HUNDRED SEVENTY-FOUR (VF-874), embarked in U.S.S. BON HOMME RICHARD (CV-31), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 30 August 1951.
