(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Captain [then Commander] George Washington Pressey, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while serving in U.S.S. MISSOURI (BB-63), from 16 September 1950 to 28 march 1951.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Commander George Washington Pressey, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States serving on the staff of Commander-in-Chief, Atlantic Fleet, from 31 December 1942 to 18 September 1943. Commander Pressey contributed materially to the development of anti-submarine weapons and tactics and to the establishment of a sound escort-of-convoy doctrine. He also aided in the planning for the participation of the Atlantic Fleet in the invasion of Africa and Sicily.

The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy Distinguished Service Medal (Posthumously) to Rear Admiral George Washington Pressey, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States as Deputy Chief of Staff Military Assistance, Logistics and Administration, Staff of Commander in Chief Pacific, from 21 May 1965 to 19 April 1966. Directly supervising all matters pertaining to the military assistance program and logistic support for all Pacific Command forces, Admiral Pressey was successful in carrying out his many responsibilities throughout this period. He was directly responsible for achieving the high state of logistic readiness of the United States forces engaged in the present conflict in Southeast Asia.
