(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Interior Communications Electrician Second Class George T. Hubbard, United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy in attempting to save a shipmate from drowning after being washed overboard from U.S.S. CHIKASKIA (AO-54) into the waters of the Pacific Ocean east of Japan on 23 January 1951.
