The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Commander Daniel P. Brooks (NSN: 0-282843/1100), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer of U.S.S. SARGO (SS(N)-583) from 1 October 1958 through 1959. As the Commanding Officer, Commander Brooks consistently exhibited outstanding qualities of leadership, professional ability, and initiative over and above the call of duty. Directly as a result of his skill, foresight, and determined efforts, the U.S.S. SARGO was able to successfully complete an operation of great value to the Government of the United States. His zeal, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty under arduous conditions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
