The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Don M. Sullivan, United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a plane during a search for a downed United States Naval aircraft east of Little America, Antarctica, from 6 to 9 February 1956. Despite hazardous terrain and adverse weather conditions, Lieutenant Sullivan pressed his search until he sighted and reported the location of the missing aircraft.
