(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Chief Electrician Harley Johnson, United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy, on board U.S.S. BENNINGTON (CVA-20), when that vessel experienced a series of explosions south of Newport, Rhode Island, on 26 May 1954.
