Yagel, United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy in attempting to rescue a fellow serviceman from drowning at Nimitz Beach, Guam, Mariana Islands, on 10 September 1954.
