    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private Frank A. Bechtold (ASN: 6839919), United States Army Air Corps, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with the 19th Pursuit Squadron, displayed while assisting in rescuing a woman from drowning at Wainaualo Beach, Oahu Territory of Hawaii, 2 July 1933. Private Bechtold with three other soldiers, learning that a woman was being carried out to sea by the undertow and in danger of drowning, at the risk of his life swam out in an extremely high sea through the strong undertow and brought the woman who had become unconscious safely to shore where she was resuscitated by means of artificial respiration.
