(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Damage Controlman First Class Martin T. McLaughlin, United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy. Damage Controlman First Class McLaughlin assisted in extinguishing a fire on the hangar deck of U.S.S. PHILIPPINE SEA (CV-47), while that ship was in the Japan Sea on 14 November 1950.
