By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant John Takach (ASN: 54589), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Takach distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Cantigny, France, 27 May 1918, while commanding an advanced outpost during a heavy enemy bombardment. Following an enemy raid, he took charge of a group and successfully counter-attacked the enemy.
