The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Specialist Fourth Class Robert Thomas Rose (ASN: RA-12789564), United States Army, for heroism in ground combat against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam on 24 January 1970. Specialist Rose distinguished himself while serving as a member of a five man long range patrol in Company L (Ranger) (Airborne), 75th Infantry, near Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Rose and one other member left the perimeter ahead of the team to check the surrounding area. Detecting movement ahead, Specialist Rose discovered an enemy force waiting in ambush. Immediately shouting a warning to his comrades, he engaged the closest insurgents. He was subjected to the enemy fire as he stood in full view of the enemy position. While Specialist Rose’s team moved in to help him, he called in and directed helicopter fire to disperse the insurgents. His actions saved his team from the waiting ambush and helped to repulse the enemy force. Specialist Rose’s personal bravery and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
