The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Airman First Class Steve R. Dixon, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand, on 20 January 1967. On that date, Airman Dixon noted live .50-caliber ammunition deposited in a burning pit within the trash disposal area. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, Airman Dixon entered the pit and recovered the ammunition before the heat and fire could engulf and set off these rounds. In so doing, he averted possible injury or death to Thai National employees and to himself. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellow man, Airman Dixon has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
