The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Thomas Parker, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on April 2 1865, while serving with Company B, 2d Rhode Island Infantry, in action at Petersburg, Virginia. Corporal Parker planted the first color on the enemy’s works. At Sailor’s Creek, Virginia, on 6 April he carried the regimental colors over the creek after the regiment had broken and been repulsed.
