The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Commander Robert C. Huston, United States Navy, for gallantry and intrepidity in action in the performance of his duties as Assistant Approach Officer in the U.S.S. SHAD (SS-235) during the SIXTH War Patrol of that Submarine from 28 September 1943 to 24 November 1943. His excellent judgment and ability, and thorough knowledge of attack problems were of invaluable assistance to his Commanding Officer in conducting aggressive torpedo attacks, despite severe enemy depth-charging, resulted in the sinking of two enemy transports totaling 13,400 tons, and damaging four ships including two light cruisers totaling 24,869 tons. His outstanding leadership and coolness in emergencies, contributed much to the success of his ship, and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
