The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Edward E. Pomerleau (ASN: 31307491), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 8 January 1945 in Luxembourg. Private First Class Pomerleau, a Medical Aid Man, advanced with a rifle company on 8 January 1945, in an attack on Nocher, Luxembourg, where the company met bitter resistance. During the close combat fire fight he continuously subjected himself to intense fire to administer aid to fallen comrades. With the red cross on his helmet as his only protection, he continually defied enemy fire to proceed with his duties. While dashing from house to house to reach a wounded soldier he was fatally wounded by an enemy hand grenade. His bravery, courage, and sincere devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
