The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Wilbur K. Morris (ASN: 0-381935), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 317th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 9 April 1945 in Germany. Lieutenant Morris, a Rifle Platoon Leader, at Bindersleben, Germany, displayed outstanding leadership and gallantry in leading a successful attack on the town. Despite the fierce enemy resistance, he led his platoon in capturing an airfield, munitions dump, a hostile garrison, and 150 enemy troops. Lieutenant Morris’ courage and aggressiveness were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
