Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 261 (October 25, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Leonard Frank (ASN: 33844119), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 10 February 1945 in Germany. Near Biesdorf, Germany, Private First Class Frank’s platoon was temporarily delayed by severe hostile fire from a house. As the platoon took cover, Private First Class Frank, with disregard for safety, crawled one hundred and fifty yards over exposed terrain to kill three, wound two, and capture three of the enemy and eliminate the stronghold. Private First Class Frank’s gallantry and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
