The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Carl H. Embrey (ASN: 36763262), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 26 September 1944 in France. At Bratte, France, Private First Class Embrey, despite intense enemy artillery and small arms fire, left his position of comparative safety to cross one hundred and fifty yards of hazardous and exposed terrain to carry two wounded comrades to safety. Private First Class Embrey’s gallantry and devotion to comrades and duty undoubtedly saved his companions’ lives and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
