The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Marie N. Polvere (ASN: 32341505), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 317th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 10 April 1945 in Germany. While leading his platoon in an attack in the vicinity of Bindersleven, Germany, Staff Sergeant Polvere rushed to the aid of a wounded fellow soldier, administered first aid under intense enemy fire, and carried him to an aid station for further medical treatment. Although dangerously exposed to the enemy, Staff Sergeant Polvere then crossed the open terrain under severe fire to rejoin his comrades in the fight. The courage and inspiring leadership displayed by Staff Sergeant Polvere were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
